Creative Critical Reflection for our Music Video

Image
1.       How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?   Common elements in music videos for the genre of music my group selected, which is pop rock, consist of close-up angles, consistent color schemes, and neutral lighting. In our music video we made sure to include some of those elements to capture the true essence of a pop rock music video. Along with us including those elements we wanted to make sure it was not a complete copy and paste, and that we tweaked some of those elements to set our video apart from others. We wanted it to stand out while still remaining true to the basic conventions. For example, our Mise en Scene referring to our clothing; we did not want to use the same idea of dark, early 2000s clothing in our video and we instead wore brighter more modern clothing to capture the meaning of the song which is cheerful and exciting. We wanted to slightly alter traditional conventions whi...

Music Video Project (Walking on Sunshine)

My group and I went through a very tedious process in the making of this video. I feel like some elements of the video could have been changed to produce a better product. As a group we should work on our teamwork. When assigning tasks to people in the group we should have been more careful in who got certain roles, it would have made the process much smoother. A lot of work goes into the completion of this music video. During the filming we had to navigate and create a plan for how we would proceed with the filming. We took many takes of certain scenes to ensure we had the best quality for our video. I think that is a very eye opening experience as we all experience what it is like to produce a video. The time limit made us mindful of how much content to shoot for each shot and it does help develop our awareness during filming. As a group we learned how to think outside of the box and to voice our creative ideas and opinions with other people. I...

Filming Blog for Music Video

Image
The day we filmed for our music video the weather outside was un-pleasant, which is ironic because the song we chose is titled "Walking on Sunshine". We originally wanted to film at Mickel Park but the gate was not open. I gave the idea to my group to film at Mills Pond Park because I knew it was nearby. We arrived at the park and met up at the playground, at first we just discussed what we were going to film first and we got started. As soon as we filmed about one segment of our video the weather decided to pick up. We scrambled for a little but until we realized we could sit in the car and wait for a while until the rain cleared up. During the filming we realized we needed to incorporate different camera angles and shots in the video. We incorporated panning shots, wide shot, hand-held shots, and a two shot. In the tag scene we utilized the panning shot to capture us running. We use a wide shot in the last scene of the video to capture all of us walking away in slo...

Editing for the Music Video

Image
The editing process of my music video was not too difficult. The total time it took to edit was about 30 minutes. I used iMovie to edit on my laptop and I begun my importing my footage onto my laptop. I organized the clips in the order I wanted the video to flow according to the story board. I did not use all the clips I wanted to make sure I remained in the time limit. We ended up cutting the first and last scene. The first scene was the group text messages that ended up leaving that out. We also cut the scene with crumbled paper at the end. I watched all the footage back as I was editing to find the perfect clips to use for each part. For the parts of the music video I did not want to use I cut the clip and merged the other pieces together. During the editing process I noticed that the time limit wasn't going over too much and I was on the right track. I needed to add the music to the background of the video. Editing   went pretty fast. Finding the music and the right time...
