Genre Research: Paul Blart Mall Cop

 

  • What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
-   Paul Blart Mall Cop has some of the comedy that we are looking for in our final task. It is a classic comedy that can be enjoyed by almost anybody. The movie is appealing to people who are more interested in different genres. It is easy to watch and a family movie type of comedy because of the sound, setting and dialogue. The editing of the film really helps add to the overall experience due to it being appropriate and in perfect timing with the events. That is what my partner and I are going for in our final task.

  • What elements of the genre did the movie have that you liked?
-  The movie Paul Blart Mall Cop had many elements that appealed to me and that I would like to integrate into my own film. To begin with, the use of editing in this film was very appealing to the eye. When certain jokes are made or certain actions occur didn't the camera might zoom in on his face to capture his expression before he reacts. The screen writing was also very funny to me. The comedy in the movie was very "slapstick" which appealed to me because exaggerated humor is comedic to me. Overall the film had many attractive qualities.

  • What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
- The movie did however have some prolonged suspense in my opinion. Comedy movies should be quick with jokes in my opinion. It is an action comedy so I can understand that element, but personally that's not my favorite element. For example when they are outside by the jet there are so many plot twists and it takes a while to get to the point. Overall that is the most unappealing element in Paul Blart Mall Cop. The movie did not have too many unappealing aspects to me but the suspense was the one element that was unattractive to me.

Editing for my Crocs Commercial

 The editing process of my commercial was not too difficult. The total time it took to edit was about 30 minutes. I used iMovie to edit on my laptop and I begun my importing my footage onto my laptop. I organized the clips in the order I wanted the commercial to flow. I did not use all the clips I wanted to make sure I remained in the time limit. I watched all the footage back as I was editing to find the perfect clips to use for each part. For the parts of the commercial I did not want to use I cut the clip and merged the other pieces together. During the editing process I noticed that the time limit wasn't going over too much and I was on the right track. I wanted to add a little bit of calming music to the background of my video. In many Croc commercials there is a calm background music and I wanted to add that element to my commercial. Planning Title Blog

  The title of a film is very essential for various reasons.  After research  on various websites about titles and title sequences we were able to begin the process of deciding on a name. We kept in mind the information absorbed from those websites and integrated  that information into our final decision. The title of a film sets the mood for the film, gives overview, and allows the audience to create assumptions for the content.  We spent some time thinking about a movie tile that fits the content of our film. As of right now the title for our film is "The Workplace". We decided this title for our film based on a comedy series named "The Office". The comedy style in our film is very similar of "The Office". As stated before in previous blogs the movie is inspired from that show. Filming for my Crocs Commercial

     On Sunday November 1st I filmed my Crocs commercial. The person I originally wanted to film with was unable to come over and film so I just filmed with my mom instead.  During this process I directed the filming. I decided the positions my mother and I would stand in, and the dialogue we would use in the commercial. Before filming I cleared the yard of any signs that would get in the way of my video. I also played around with locations for the camera to sit to record. I gathered the football and soccer ball, the shoe box and crocs, and set up the camera in the front yard. I decided to film in the front yard of my house because I wanted to use the grass to play with the balls. This was the first option out of the two options I had for filming stated in my planning.
