Genre Research: Horror



     The genre for the powerpoint project my partner and I completed was Horror. My partner and I decided on this genre because we both had a large interest in horror films. By us doing this genre in our powerpoint it would help us gather a larger understanding and appreciation of horror. For this project we split the work to make it easier on both of us and so one person wasn't too overwhelmed with doing too much work. Before the project started we spent time going through websites and gathering information about horror films. We also spent time discussing some of our favorite films and our favorite elements of them. That helped make our project more personal yet still informing. We attempted to make it more interesting for our audience so they can appreciate the genre as much as us while also absorbing information about it. The powerpoint contains eerie music playing in the background to give a full experience to the person viewing it. The powerpoint contains information about the elements of horror such as suspense, fear, and mystery, these are some of the building blocks to a proper horror film. Without those elements the film is bland and lacking the flavor of horror. The powerpoint also talks about lighting, angles and movement of cameras for the production of horror film. Mise en scene was also discussed in our powerpoint. Often times that aspect is overlooked in film. Costume and apparel is very important in horror it makes that character who they are. Props are also a large factor in film, a knife can be a characters signature item for example if they were a murderer who uses knives. We discussed a variety of horror films and what we liked or disliked about them. We tried to discuss the appeal of horror films and how the elements make it whole. We made sure to begin and end the powerpoint with eerie images to really top off the effect of horror. Our powerpoint was made to try and capture the true essence of horror films and to help people understand the makeup of horror films.

Editing for my Crocs Commercial

 The editing process of my commercial was not too difficult. The total time it took to edit was about 30 minutes. I used iMovie to edit on my laptop and I begun my importing my footage onto my laptop. I organized the clips in the order I wanted the commercial to flow. I did not use all the clips I wanted to make sure I remained in the time limit. I watched all the footage back as I was editing to find the perfect clips to use for each part. For the parts of the commercial I did not want to use I cut the clip and merged the other pieces together. During the editing process I noticed that the time limit wasn't going over too much and I was on the right track. I wanted to add a little bit of calming music to the background of my video. In many Croc commercials there is a calm background music and I wanted to add that element to my commercial. Planning Title Blog

  The title of a film is very essential for various reasons.  After research  on various websites about titles and title sequences we were able to begin the process of deciding on a name. We kept in mind the information absorbed from those websites and integrated  that information into our final decision. The title of a film sets the mood for the film, gives overview, and allows the audience to create assumptions for the content.  We spent some time thinking about a movie tile that fits the content of our film. As of right now the title for our film is "The Workplace". We decided this title for our film based on a comedy series named "The Office". The comedy style in our film is very similar of "The Office". As stated before in previous blogs the movie is inspired from that show. Filming for my Crocs Commercial

     On Sunday November 1st I filmed my Crocs commercial. The person I originally wanted to film with was unable to come over and film so I just filmed with my mom instead.  During this process I directed the filming. I decided the positions my mother and I would stand in, and the dialogue we would use in the commercial. Before filming I cleared the yard of any signs that would get in the way of my video. I also played around with locations for the camera to sit to record. I gathered the football and soccer ball, the shoe box and crocs, and set up the camera in the front yard. I decided to film in the front yard of my house because I wanted to use the grass to play with the balls. This was the first option out of the two options I had for filming stated in my planning.
